production portal

you cannot manage what you don't measure

The Integrated Production Envoronment [IPEN] is a web based portal built on top of automation modules. It is designed bridge the gap between the Production and the enterprise.

Such software does not exist for the Newspaper Publishing Market.

Look at your enterprise today. On one hand, you have the enterprise systems. They could be home grown or sophisticated like PeopleSoft. On the other hand, you have multimillion dollar printing units and mailing infrastructure.

But t he daily information flow between business and production, is congested due to excessive use of Post It notes, spreadsheets, handwritten notes, voicemails.......you name it.

This problem is an ongoing challenge which costs time and money.

The solution lies in providing the right information to the right decision maker at the right time. And it has to be convenient.

the PRS story

Back in 1997, we started working with some visionaries from Howard Publications, Inc. A gruop of 18 local papers. Our goal was to build a solution which could yield immediate results.

Three years later we rolled out the Production Reporting System. It was an instant success inside the organization. In 2002, the NAA's Tech News Publication selected Howard Publications to receive its Best Practices Award, based on Howard's PRS usage.

Business Award: Times Software Takes Production's Pulse

Back then , the PRS was a client/server based with integrated modules for Production, Circulation, Inventrory, Quality Control and Web based reporting.

Then we started working with the National Production Group of the New York Times. The goal was to create another PRS - this time web based - and help the NYT manage print production with the national print partners.

Now after five years of development and refinement, we are taking the product to the industry as a viable alternative to the old way.

the integrated modules

Enterprise Portal
  • Collaboration and Communications portal for Production Teams and others in the company.
  • Document Repository for SOPs, Checklists, Troubleshooting Manuals.
  • Calendar: For maintenance, tasks.
Circulation Workflow

Import modules to link daily Print orders directly from Circulation or intermediary steps. If required, we can also provide online customized forms.

Special Calendars

This is a helper module where your users can manage specialized calendars and alerts. It can be used for FSI's, and Special Sections.

Alerts System

The Alerts management system provides a convenient and efficient way of keeping production users in touch with time sensitive events and notifications.

It's a web based system capable of making voice calls, sending faxes and emails, and sending SMS messages to mobile phones.

    You can:

Send real time and [near] real time alerts to your users in the field.

The alerts can be email messages, faxes, SMS messages or synthesized voice calls (Text to speech.)

Administrators can setup distribution lists, business events etc. online.

The PRS can use this module automatically to notify users if a business event has [or has not] occurred.

Online Reporting
    • Reports are viewed and delivered online.
    • Reports can be downloaded as Excel or PDF documents.
    • The administrators can mark specific reports to be mailed to specific users.
    • We are enhancing the reporting subsystem to allow ad hoc querying and drill down reports.

how we sell it

We provide the production portal as a hosted application. For a low startup and a very low monthly fee, we will host and maintain the portal for you. The payoff is instant and the cost is negligible.
